Acute Sports Injury Diagnosis | MRI & Ultrasound Gold Coast

Injured? Don't Guess. Get the Right Scan.

Request advanced 3T MRI or musculoskeletal ultrasound directly, subject to radiologist clinical approval

Advanced 3T MRI. High-resolution ultrasound. Direct access to specialist medical imaging.

A sudden injury can interrupt your sport, work and everyday life. Whether you have twisted your knee, rolled your ankle, injured your wrist or developed shoulder or elbow pain, understanding exactly what has been injured is an important first step towards appropriate treatment.

At MBR Health on the Gold Coast, we offer a rapid, privately funded sports injury imaging pathway for patients who want to request an MRI or musculoskeletal ultrasound without first waiting for an external doctor's appointment.

No external referral is required to submit a request for selected MRI or ultrasound examinations. Every request is reviewed by a specialist radiologist to determine clinical suitability and the appropriate examination. Patients must nominate a treating medical practitioner for reporting and follow-up.

Ultra-High-Resolution 3T MRI

Our advanced Philips 3 Tesla MRI system supports specialised 3D joint imaging, including selected acquisitions with sub-0.5 mm spatial resolution.

These high-resolution techniques allow detailed multiplanar assessment of small anatomical structures such as ligaments, cartilage, tendons and joint surfaces.

MRI also provides detailed assessment of bone marrow injuries, occult fractures and deeper joint structures that may not be adequately assessed with ultrasound.

High-Resolution Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

Ultrasound provides real-time assessment of many tendons, muscles, superficial ligaments and soft-tissue injuries.

It also allows dynamic examination during controlled movement, which can be particularly useful for selected tendon injuries and instability.

Both MRI and ultrasound are non-ionising imaging techniques — neither exposes patients to X-ray radiation.

Choose Your Injured Joint

  • Knee: ACL, meniscus, collateral ligaments, cartilage and tendon injuries.

  • Foot & Ankle: Ligament sprains, syndesmotic injuries, tendon damage and occult bone injuries.

  • Hand & Wrist: Tendon, pulley, carpal ligament, TFCC and selected bone injuries.

  • Elbow: Tendon tears, collateral ligament injuries and joint abnormalities.

  • Shoulder: Rotator cuff tears, labral injuries, instability and associated bone injuries.

How It Works

  1. Select your injured joint and preferred imaging examination.

  2. Submit your request and relevant injury information online.

  3. Our radiologist reviews the clinical indication and confirms the appropriate imaging pathway.

  4. Our team confirms your appointment and preparation requirements.

  5. Your scan is interpreted by a specialist radiologist, with the report sent to your nominated treating practitioner.

Privately funded imaging. No Medicare rebate under this direct-request pathway.

MRI or ultrasound is not automatically the correct first examination for every acute injury. Suspected fractures, dislocations, neurovascular injuries or significant neurological deficits may require urgent medical assessment or X-ray/CT instead.
