Acute Knee Injury — Ultrasound | Gold Coast
Acute Knee Injury — Specialist Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
Fast, Targeted Assessment of Knee Tendons and Soft Tissues
Not every knee injury needs an MRI. For selected superficial structures, ultrasound can provide detailed information in real time.
At MBR Health on the Gold Coast, our experienced musculoskeletal ultrasound team performs targeted examinations of knee tendons, ligaments and surrounding soft tissues.
What Can Knee Ultrasound Assess?
- Quadriceps and patellar tendon tears.
- Selected medial collateral ligament injuries.
- Joint effusion and fluid collections.
- Superficial soft-tissue injuries.
- Bursitis and selected periarticular abnormalities.
- Tendon movement and integrity during dynamic assessment.
- Why Ultrasound?
Ultrasound allows the examiner to observe selected structures during movement, assess localised tenderness and compare findings with the opposite side where appropriate.
Important: Ultrasound is not a reliable replacement for MRI when an ACL injury, meniscal tear, deep cartilage injury or bone marrow injury is suspected. An MRI may still be recommended following the ultrasound.
